Finding a Side Hustle: School Edition
Being a student usually means you are broke – after all, most live off zero income.
Being a student usually means you are broke – after all, most live off zero income. Student loans can cover school and housing costs, but making extra money helps pay for things like tuition and rent. Plus, it might reduce the number of student loans we need to take out.
We know that many students only have a short amount of time, so we started a side hustle campaign to compile a list of money-making opportunities. This isn't everything available; there are numerous alternatives depending on your talents and interests. However, here are some ideas:
Browse the Internet
If you frequently use the internet, why not get compensated for your time with easy online earning opportunities? The more tasks you complete, the higher your payout. Furthermore, many of these companies offer sign-up bonuses.
Swagbucks is an online activity-based website that allows you to rack up points (SB) which can then be turned in for real cash. You can earn SB by doing things such as taking surveys, watching videos, and using their search engine.
Grocery Delivery
America is a big place, and so are its grocery stores. Apps like Instacart claim orders from customers who want groceries delivered to their homes without having to leave the house. As the contracted middleman, it's your job to do the shopping and deliver them said groceries. The great thing about being an independent contractor is that our services are available cross-country!
Surveys
Why not make some passive income by taking online surveys? It's a quick and easy way to make money, and you can do it while relaxing or watching your daily show. The real question is, why wouldn't you take advantage of survey sites?
Tutoring
An education company can help you find online tutoring work, and you're guaranteed to get paid since these businesses charge students before you start tutoring them. The education firm acts as a middleman between the student and the tutor, but some of the earnings will go to the company instead of directly to you. On the plus side, you can control your availability and have them book your schedule for you later on, which means less work searching for clients independently.
Proofreading
Grammar lovers rejoice- you can now get paid to help ensure communications, articles, speeches, and more are error-free! As a proofreader, you play an important role in making sure people and corporations put their best foot forward. It's easy work (depending on the person) that can be completed from the comfort of your dorm and is well compensated.
Focus Groups
There are actually ways to make money by being a guinea pig for science! If you're interested in making some extra cash, focus groups might be something to look into. Focus groups are where companies collect people to ask questions and get suggestions for new products. It's not unheard of to make a couple of hundred dollars just for a few hours of work! So if you think this could be something up your alley, definitely give it some thought.
Food Delivery
With food delivery apps, you can easily make some additional money on the side, even if you have a full-time schedule. You set your schedule every single day! Delivering meals for Ubereats or Doordash is one of the most popular ways to make money in this economy.
Campus Jobs
Many universities offer students the opportunity to work for the school in a variety of positions, such as first-year student tutors, undergraduate consultants, or on-campus housing community advisors.
Although on-campus jobs are not publicized as much, they do exist! If you don't know whether your school offers these positions, inquire from those around you. Chat with your professors or visit the career services office for more information.
Note Taking
Who knew that you could make some extra cash by simply taking notes in class? If you find that your classmates frequently turn to you for study tips and advice, then becoming a note-taker might be something to consider.
Selling Old Textbooks
Websites like eBay and Amazon offer an easy way to sell old books that you'll never read again, making it a great way to earn some extra money without sacrificing your time at a job you hate. You may be surprised at how much money you can get for textbooks you no longer need!
Start a Business
While starting your own business will be time-consuming, you never know where it might take you!
